The 2015 Ford Mustang will be the first ever sold in Europe. If Ford had any concerns over how it would be received, then we're pretty sure that those worries have now been diminished!
Ford allocated 500 pre-order Mustangs for Europe, with the opportunity to reserve them during the UEFA Champions League Final between Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid at the end of May. Ford set up a website on which customers could register on a first come, first served basis, which went live as the match kicked off.
Proving that the Mustang is as popular as ever, especially outside of the US, more than 9,300 people sought to reserve one in the EU, with the first 500 up for grabs being allocated in only 30 seconds!
Roeland de Waard, vice president of marketing, sales and service at Ford of Europe said “We knew there was huge excitement building for the new Mustang coming to Europe, but the response during the Final was overwhelming. It was a truly special way to kick off the Ford Mustang era in Europe."
Hardtop fans were restricted to reserving Race Red, while convertible drivers could get Magnetic Silver - the 2015 Mustang's official launch colours. Despite the lack of a colour choice, owners will be able to choose between the Mustang's two European engines, the 2.3-litre, turbocharged four-cylinder and the 5.0-litre V8.
Each pre-ordered vehicle will also come with a special 'Champions League' package, including MyFord Touch with Sync 2 and navigation, black leather seats with heating and ventilation functions, rear parking sensors - park assist , chrome detailing and 19" alloy wheels.
Ford has promised to contact the customers in each of the 20 EU countries who were quickest to place their reservations, in the next few weeks - Including 130 of them from the UK. They will then to invite them to confirm their order at their nearest Ford dealership later this year.
Ford, which is the official vehicle supplier of the UEFA Champions League for the 2013/2014 season, promoted its registration event with a series of videos, depicting the Mustang in front of major landmarks from London, Paris and Berlin to Rome and Lisbon, where the final match was played.
