A new 2018 Ford Transit Custom one-tonne commercial vehicle has been revealed that delivers a bold new design, enhanced productivity to UK businesses and a new interior taken from the all-new Ford Fiesta.
The Transit Custom medium-sized panel van is part of Ford's best-selling range of commercial vehicles and the new model will be available to order later this year at TC Harrison Transit Centres in Derby, Peterborough and Spalding, with customer deliveries starting in early 2018.
Still powered by the game-changing Ford EcoBlue 2.0-litre diesel engine, the 2018 Ford Transit Custom has been re-engineered to offer significant new features and capabilities including a new ECOnetic van variant. Standard engines are available in 104bhp, 128bhp and 168bhp, while the ECOnetic variant will offer 49.6mpg and 148g/km of CO2.
The Dagenham-built Ford EcoBlue diesel option will be available from launch, but by 2019 there will also be a zero-emission plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) Transit Custom on sale, possible thanks to the lower-powered engine being calibrated for economy with stop-start and low rolling resistance tyres to save fuel. Trials of the PHEV Transit Custom will begin with fleets starting in London later this year.

As before there are still two roof heights, two wheelbase options and payload options of up to 1,450kg available for the 2018 Ford Transit Custom. Variants will include van, kombi and double-cab-in-van models. There’s also still a range-topping Ford Transit Custom Sport series fitted with the 168bhp engine that comes with the trademark twin bonnet stripes and exterior body kit.
Sporting a bold new front-end design with three-bar Transit grille, Ford’s redesigned Custom van also provides drivers with the ideal mobile office environment. Inside, there’s partial leather trim and/or new embossed fabrics. The cabin features best-in-class stowage offering 25 litres of storage space around the cabin, improved comfort and ergonomics, and easy connectivity with SYNC 3 infotainment system with voice commands, or a smartphone MyFord Dock for models without the larger screen. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are included too.
Further tech includes an Intelligent Speed Limiter which uses traffic sign recognition to automatically restrict speed to that of the legal limit. Blind spot assist with rear cross traffic will also be available, along with auto braking, lane keep assist and adaptive cruise control.
There's no word on pricing yet but we expect the facelift 2018 Ford Transit Custom to cost around the same as the current van, which starts at £25,430. Register your interest today by contacting your local TC Harrison Ford Transit Centre.
