The Ford Mustang Just Got Even More Special!

In the #GoFurther 2016 announcements from Cologne, Germany on Tuesday 29th November, Ford unveiled two new special edition Ford Mustang models for customers in Europe, complete with unique styling and premium specification. Introducing: the new Ford Mustang Black Shadow Edition, and the distinctive Ford Mustang Blue Edition!

The new Black Shadow Edition features special black 19-inch alloy wheels and unique black body detailing, while the Blue Edition embodies the spirit of classic Ford Mustang models with eye-catching "Grabber" colours, such as the Grabber Blue body with sporty body stripes. Both editions are available in fastback bodystyle and offer high-specifications, including heated and cooled seats, Ford's SYNC 3 communications and entertainment system with navigation, and a premium audio system.

Roelant de Waard, vice president of Marketing, Sales and Service at Ford of Europe, said: “The Ford Mustang has no trouble standing out on European roads, and with the new Ford Mustang Black Shadow Edition and Blue Edition models, Mustang drivers will be turning even more heads. Special edition Ford Mustangs have been an important part of the Mustang story for more than 50 years, and now customers in Europe can play their own part in the iconic car’s rich special edition history.”

New Ford Mustang Blue Edition

Since they were first introduced for the 1969 Shelby GT350 and GT500 models, the Ford Grabber colours (named for their ability to grab attention) have periodically been offered for the Ford Mustang in 20 distinctive variations, including Grabber Orange, Grabber Yellow, and Grabber Lime.

The new Ford Mustang Blue Edition is available to order now with either Ford's 421PS 5.0-litre V8 or the more fuel-efficient 317PS 2.3-litre EcoBoost engine and six-speed manual or automatic transmissions. It delivers the eye-catching Grabber Blue exterior body colour enhanced with central dissolve-effect black bonnet and roof stripes, and 19-inch multi-spoke alloys.

Both new special edition models feature Ford's SYNC 3 system with 8-inch touchscreen, that enables drivers to locate nearby cafés, petrol stations, or car parks easily and quickly.

The Ford Mustang in Europe

In 2015, Ford released the first Mustang to be sold outside of the USA since 1979. Since then, almost 23,000 Ford Mustangs have been sold and ordered in Europe since the iconic sports car launched in the Summer of 2015. Around two thirds of those have been fastback models. Red, grey, and black are the most popular Mustang body colours in Europe and 64% of customers select the V8 engine, with the EcoBoost models being most popular in southern Europe.

The 2.3 EcoBoost model is available in both Fastback and Convertible forms, with a choice of manual or automatic transmission for both. Manual versions achieve 35.3 mpg on the combined cycle and this drops to 28 mpg for the automatic version. Convertibles achieve slightly lower fuel economy figures. The 5.0 V8 GT models are also available as either a manual or automatic, Fastback or Convertible. The V8 power means lower fuel consumption: official combined mpg for the manual fastback version is 20.9 mpg, but this rises to 23.5 mpg for the automatic. Convertible models achieve slightly lower fuel economy figures again.
