At TC Harrison we are proud supporters of the British Heart Foundation (BHF). Last year we were honoured to receive BHF funding to install a Public Access Defibrillator (PAD) at our Pride Park, Derby Ford Dealership. We also received a Call Push Rescue training kit from the BHF, enabling us to hold monthly CPR and Defibrillator awareness workshops for our staff and surrounding businesses.
Back in 2015 we got involved with the BHF's Wear it. Beat it. event for the first time. Our staff were sponsored to wear red while walking and running on a treadmill non-stop from 7am-7pm in our Ford showroom. This generated a lot of competition amongst staff and created a lot of interest from our customers, who also donated!
This year we've taken part again and staff paid to dress in red. Both staff and customers purchased BHF badges and cakes which has helped to raise a staggering £261 for this great cause again.
The BHF's mascot, Mr Hearty, found time in his busy schedule to attend with BHF Fundraising Manager for Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire, Derek Kilgariff.
Complementing staff on their excellent fundraising efforts, Mr Hearty was also excited to see our Public Access Defibrillator and thanked us again for facilitating CPR and Defibrillator awareness training.
Sophie Parkins, Area Fundraising Manager East Midlands said “The team at TC Harrison have always been extremely helpful and are open to new ideas to help improve and save the lives of people in Derby. Their Health, Safety & Environmental Manager Mark Creed, is a shining example to other businesses on Pride Park, and in Derby City. We are also absolutely delighted to have recently been chosen as TC Harrison’s charity of the year for 2017, and we're look forward to working together more, to continue raising awareness and funds to power life saving research.”
Mark Creed commented, "Through my own experience, I’m very aware of the devastation that heart disease can have on friends and family and we’re helping raise awareness of the support the British Heart Foundation provides to millions of people living with heart disease. By getting involved in campaigns like Wear it. Beat it. we can help the BHF to fund research into combatting heart disease and we hope that the small things we can do, can help make a difference.”
TC Harrison employees can also now take part in our occupational health surveillance programme which includes clinics where employees are able to have their blood pressure taken, anonymously. We’re also promoting wellbeing advice through email and on our staff noticeboards.
We’ve made some great new friends in the area through our CPR training and while helping the BHF with their mission of creating a 'Nation of Lifesavers'. Long may it continue.
