A brief history of the Ford Fiesta

First conceptualised back in 1972, the Ford Fiesta was officially launched in mainland Europe in 1976 and later in the UK in 1977. The first version was produced until 1983 and since then, we’ve seen the launch of eight Ford Fiesta generations.

A string of new engines were introduced to the generations that followed, including numerous facelifts and design adjustments. The supermini was an instant hit in the UK, and as of 2020, the Ford Fiesta has been the bestselling new car in the country for 12 consecutive years.

What to consider when buying a used car

Where to buy

You should be wary of who you are buying a used car from. Motor garages with years of experience are always a safer option for those with little experience, as they conduct thorough inspections and provide good after-sales support.

Car condition

Especially when buying privately, make sure to check the tyres, dents, scratches, electrics, condition of the upholstery and general wear and tear.

Mileage

On average, cars should do around 10,000 miles per year. You can multiply this number by the car’s age to check whether the mileage is too much.

Documentation and car history

A good used car will have a detailed history of services, works done and past owners. This information will ensure that you aren’t walking into any nasty surprises.

Running costs

Due to its wide variety of engine options, the Ford Fiesta is an affordable car to run. This applies to both fuel and maintenance. Regular servicing is also made easy, with the company benefiting from the largest network of dealers in the UK.
