Ford Puma vs Ford Fiesta: How do they compare?

When it comes to choosing a hatchback car perfect for inner-city driving, the Ford Fiesta is a great choice. It’s affordable, is available in a mild-hybrid version, and has all of the features and tech that you need from a modern car.

The Ford Puma, on the other hand, is an SUV crossover that, while not quite as efficient or affordable as the Ford Fiesta, represents great value and plenty of fun for those looking for something a little more than a hatchback.

Vehicle sizes

supermini that is family-friendly. The interior is comfortable, and the five-door variant has wide-opening rear doors that make it easy to get into the backseats. Those sitting in the front will have no trouble finding a comfortable driving position thanks to the abundance of adjustments available in the seat and steering wheel.

The seats can be lowered to the ground like that of a sports vehicle. For those in the backseats, the current Ford Fiesta boasts an additional 16mm of leg room, thanks to modified front seats with a thinner backrest that takes up significantly less space.

The glovebox is reported to be 20% bigger than previous models, leaving space for vehicle documents and manuals or belongings. In the centre console, you will find a storage space that will hold a litre, plus large rear door pockets. With the parcel shelf in place, there is 311 litres of storage space available in the boot.

Even though the Ford Puma and the Ford Fiesta share similar designs, the Ford Puma is 54mm taller, 71mm broader, and has 95mm additional bodywork between the two sets of wheels. The Ford Puma has a 456-litre boot and an additional 80-litre storage box underneath the boot floor.

Engine Sizes

The Ford Puma is offered with Ford’s renowned 1.0-litre three-cylinder EcoBoost petrol engine, with a 1.5-litre EcoBlue diesel also available.

You can choose from two power outputs - 125 or 155PS, both with mild-hybrid technology to boost fuel economy. With 197bhp, the Ford Puma ST is the most powerful model in the lineup by a considerable margin, and it is driven by the same turbocharged 1.5-litre petrol engine as the Ford Fiesta ST. The Ford Puma ST is the fastest variant of the Puma range, capable of 0 to 62 mph in 6.7 seconds.

An entry-level Ford Fiesta comes with a 1.1-litre engine. 99bhp gives you 0-62mph in 10.8 seconds, but opt for the 123bhp and you can get there in 9.6 seconds.

Ford has recently converted several of the Ford Fiesta's EcoBoost petrol cars. The 1.0-litre engine, which was first seen in the Ford Puma SUV, is now available with mild-hybrid assistance in both the 123 and 153bhp versions. When it comes to the Ford Fiesta ST, you can opt for a 1.5 litre EcoBoost petrol engine. It has one turbocharger, three cylinders, and no shortage of power with a not insignificant 197bhp.
