How are CO2 emissions calculated?

If you’re looking for the lowest possible running costs, while also reducing the impact of your car on the environment, you should choose a Ford Focus model with the lowest possible emission figures.

The higher the CO2 figures, the higher the level of greenhouse gases and pollutants. In addition, models with lower emissions will have a higher MPG figure and so you will use less fuel. The figures also have an impact on the car tax payable, with company car rates also relating to emission figures.

CO2 emissions for popular Ford Focus ST-Line engines

The Ford Focus has proven to be one of the most popular vehicles in its class, with the ST-Line trim known, in particular, for its style and handling. The comfortable ride, quiet driving, space and fuel efficiency have ensured that many customers choose the Focus. However, there are differences across the range in terms of fuel costs and emissions, with the newest engines offering lower CO2 figures thanks to mild-hybrid technology.

An alternative to the Ford Focus ST

If you are attracted to the sporty Ford Focus ST, you may find that the ongoing running costs are a little too high. The Ford Focus ST-Line offers a great alternative with a similar sports style and lower ongoing running costs. For example, the 2.0L diesel ST emits 148g/km of CO2 and the petrol 2.3L emits the highest levels of CO2 of the whole Ford Focus range with very high CO2 levels of 187g/km.

How does the ST-Line compare to other Ford Focus models?

Although the CO2 emissions for the new Ford Focus ST-Line are relatively low, other Ford Focus models can offer a range of CO2 emissions. For example, the 1.5 litre diesel EcoBlue Ford Focus Zetec offers the lowest emissions of 118g/km.

However, switch to the 1.0-litre petrol EcoBoost Zetec and emissions are actually slightly higher than the ST-Line at 125mg/km. This figure is also in line with the Titanium range, with the lowest emissions of this spec available with the 2.0-litre diesel Ecoblue 150PS of 125mg/km. Switch to a 1.5-litre petrol engine and figures for the Titanium 150ps engine increase to 142mg/km.

If you are thinking of purchasing a used Ford Focus, manufactured between 2011 and 2018, the emissions are slightly higher than similar-sized hatchbacks. The lowest emission levels available with a diesel engine are available with the 1.5 litre TDCi ECOnetic models, with CO2 emissions of 88g/km. Alternatively, the 2.0-litre diesel engine emits 105g/km of CO2. If you are looking for a petrol car, the cleanest engine is the 1.6-litre engine which emits 110g/km.
