Ford Focus service intervals: How often should you service your Ford?

Keeping your Ford Focus properly maintained is vital if you want to maintain its reliability and resale value. Regular maintenance can help to reduce running costs over the long term by identifying major issues before they become too costly to repair.

And, when it comes to trading your Ford Focus in for the latest model, you’ll get much more for your vehicle if you can show that it has been maintained in line with the manufacturer’s service schedule.

Why is it important to service your Ford Focus regularly?

Blue focus

The upfront cost of buying a vehicle only represents a small percentage of the overall running costs. Other expenses such as insurance, fuel, maintenance and depreciation, account for a much greater percentage of costs over the lifetime of the car.

Many vehicle owners hunt around for the best car and insurance deals and are always on the lookout for the lowest fuel prices to keep costs to a minimum. But few realise the benefits of regular maintenance.

Far from being an expense, regular maintenance can actually help to reduce the overall running costs of your car. Here are six reasons why servicing your Ford Focus at a Ford dealership can help to save costs over time:

1. Keep your car in the best condition

Regular maintenance can improve the lifespan of the vehicle, allowing you to keep it for longer and ensuring that, when you come to trade it in or sell it, you get a better price.

2. Car runs smoothly and reduces the risk of breakdown

A well-maintained Ford Focus should keep running smoothly and reliably for tens of thousands of miles. This means fewer breakdowns and the associated costs that go with them.

3. Reduces the risk of unexpected repair bills

No one likes an unexpected repair bill. The good news is that you can reduce the risk of being hit by an unexpected bill by making sure your car is serviced in line with the manufacturer’s service schedule.

4. Improve the resale value of the car

A full-service history (FSH) is one of the first things buyers look for when selecting a used car. A car with FSH can be worth several thousand pounds more than a vehicle that has been neglected. So, you’ll get more for your Ford Focus when you come to trade it in.

5. Maintains the warranty

A brand new Ford Focus comes with a generous three year/60,000 mile warranty. But, to maintain this warranty, the vehicle must be serviced in line with the manufacturer’s service schedule.

6. Make sure tyres are in good condition

Engineers will always carry out checks of safety-related systems such as the brakes and tyres during scheduled maintenance. This helps to identify issues early and ensures your vehicle is safe to drive.

Frequently Asked Questions

How can you keep your Ford in the best condition between scheduled services?

Getting your Ford Focus serviced in line with the manufacturer’s schedule is the best thing you can do to keep your car in good working order. But, there are several checks you can carry out yourself to ensure your car keeps running smoothly between services.

  • Check tyre pressure – tyres are one of the most important safety features of your car. Incorrect tyre pressures can affect the handling of your car, increase fuel consumption and reduce braking performance. You can find the correct tyre pressures in your owner’s handbook.

  • Change windscreen wipers – windscreen wipers are part of the interim service check, but you should not wait to replace them if they are showing signs of wear.

  • Check fluid levels – fluid levels including coolant, screen wash and oil should be checked on a monthly basis.
