Why is it important to service your Ford Galaxy regularly?

Regular servicing helps to keep your car running smoothly and helps to prevent any unexpected breakdowns or problems which can cost money.

Keep your car in the best condition

Services are designed to keep vehicles in the best possible condition. They involve routine maintenance such as:

  • Oil changes
  • Fluid top-ups
  • Thorough inspections of the vehicle's various parts to identify potential mechanical problems or safety hazards
  • Engine check
  • Brake pads checked
  • Suspension inspected
  • Exhaust inspected
  • Interior lights and mirrors examined

Technicians also look for signs of wear, tear, damage or corrosion, and recommend repairs wherever necessary.

Identify minor problems before they become major

Services often identify minor problems with a car before they develop into significant malfunctions, which would be more costly to repair. For this reason, a good service schedule could help you to save money over the long term. They can also help to reduce the risk of unexpected breakdowns and subsequent recovery costs.

Protect resale value

Vehicles that are serviced regularly tend to have an increased resale value compared to those that do not have a full service history.

This is because buyers are reassured that they will be less likely to face expensive repairs once they have bought the car. Plus, it demonstrates that you have taken good care of your vehicle and suggests it is in excellent condition overall compared to a car that does not have a complete service history.

What should you look for when servicing your car?

When booking your Ford Galaxy in for a scheduled service, be sure to use an experienced technician in Ford vehicles. Every manufacturer, including Ford, has guidelines on the car's parts that mechanics should check during each service.

An experienced Ford technician will adhere to these guidelines and be more knowledgeable about the unique features of Galaxy cars, which might help them identify potential mechanical issues early on. Be sure also to have official Ford parts used during any repairs or replacements. Failure to do so could result in your warranty becoming void should parts fail in the future.

When you book a TC Harrison service, our technicians are trained in Ford parts so you can be reassured that your car will be serviced properly and any issues identified and corrected.

What is an interim service?

An interim service, also known as a minor service, is not as detailed as a full service.

Interim services are recommended at lower mileage points and designed to give the car a basic health check and a limited amount of routine maintenance. Interior checks usually include:

  • Review of gauges
  • Review of warning lights
  • Check horn
  • Check wipers
  • Check interior lights
  • Check seatbelts
  • Inspect clutch operation

Exterior checks of the car include:

  • Lights
  • Door and boot operation
  • Function and condition of the fuel cap spoiler
  • Steering
  • Suspension linkage
  • Call joints spoiler
  • Shock absorbers and springs

Tyre pressure, tread and alignment are also reviewed, and TPMS is inspected. Under the bonnet, assessments at an interim service include battery and wiring inspection, tests of the starter motor, alternator and battery, and checks of engine coolant and brake fluid levels. Brake pipes and hoses are checked, and the bonnet catch operation is inspected. The brakes are checked only visually. Finally, the oil filter and oil are replaced, and the vehicle is road tested.

What is a full service?

A full service, also often referred to as a major service, provides more detailed inspections to ensure no significant problems have occurred once the car has reached a higher mileage. In addition to all of the above, a full service should include checks of climate control or air-con systems and assessment of engine diagnostic codes.

Mirrors are checked along with radiator and coolant hoses. Power steering fluid is topped up if required, and the auxiliary drive belt is inspected and adjusted as needed. Under the vehicle, the breaks are fully inspected, and fuel pipes are assessed for damage or corrosion.

The engine, transmission and rear axle drive are examined, as are the drive shaft joints, gaiters, and exhaust system. Finally, air filters are replaced.
