Ford and Google Announce Six-Year Partnership

Yesterday Ford announced they have partnered with Google in a six-year strategic alliance which will see the Android system be installed in all Ford vehicles outside of China from 2023.

Plans for the six-year strategic alliance show that Google will provide Ford with expertise in data, artificial intelligence and machine learning. Then from 2023 Ford will switch the infotainment system to be powered by Android tech. Google will also work with Ford on projects including modernising the manufacturing processes and unearthing new ways for customers to buy cars.

Moving from FordSync and FordPass Connect it’s been confirmed that Google Cloud is the preferred software cloud provider, which will allow Ford to use existing data analytics and artificial-intelligence functions. All of which is geared towards enhancing customer experience by providing vehicle owners with real-time notices for scheduled servicing or any relevant offers.

In the 2023 switch, Google Assistant voice control functionality, Google Maps navigation and the Google Play entertainment interface will be used as standard. Plus, Ford will be looking to work with developers to build a catalogue of apps, tailored to Ford owners.

Apple iPhone users needn’t worry either as Ford confirmed its cars would still offer the ability to link with iPhones through its CarPlay technology, and it would still continue to offer Amazon’s Alexa voice assistant.
