Ford Fiesta ST Races through Secret Salt Mine

Ford Europe has been putting together a selection of videos for its incredible Greatest Driving Roads series, which has seen Ford performance vehicles take to some stunning and newly discovered locations all across Europe.

For the latest instalment, the brand new Ford Fiesta ST took a trip to a top secret location, going 400 metres below ground to one of Europe’s largest salt mines. The challenging mines are set to a constant 16C with a winding network of tunnels and a slippery, salty track.

“The drama of the tunnels and the chance to show off Fiesta ST’s ability on a different type of surface were a big part of choosing this unique location. It wasn’t a typical race track, it was somewhere we could drive this great car to its full potential.” – Leo Roeks, Ford Performance director.

Watch the team setting up for the three-day shoot at the salt mine location:

World Rally Champion driver Elfyn Evans took to the wheel of the Fiesta ST, putting it through its paces on the sliding dirt track. The enclosed location amplified the sounds of the 1.5-litre 200PS EcoBoost engine, its noises echoing through the dark and winding tunnels. Evans thoroughly enjoyed the exhilarating experience, saying “You’d expect it to be claustrophobic but actually it’s quite the opposite, a great place to really enjoy the new Fiesta ST.”
