Derby Mountain Rescue and the award-winning Ford Ranger
TC Harrison Ford are proud to have played a small part in Ford’s latest Lifesavers campaign, which promotes the phenomenal work of volunteer groups up-and-down the country. From supporting the nationwide RNLI through to working with local mountain rescue groups such as Derby Mountain Rescue.

The team of about 60 mountain rescuers in Derby attend on average 50-60 call outs a year and are trained for many different types of incident including crag rescue and rope access, missing person search, flood and swiftwater water rescue, and pre-hospital emergency medicine.

An operation as vital as this requires a vast amount of high-quality equipment and that stretches through to the vehicles used by the team. Which is where we are delighted to have been able to play our part, recently Derby Mountain Rescue came to us requiring a versatile and adaptive vehicle for their operations.

The requirements were simple, a ‘do everything type of vehicle’… from conducting a search and having the ability to quickly move groups of searches to numerous locations, through to carrying a large amount of equipment to remote locations.

Commonly the team will face terrain such as farmers’ fields, river crossings and anything else the off-road throws at the team, which combined with the weight of the equipment and team members, puts a huge demand on the vehicle. Fortunately, the Ford Ranger has been able to step up to the plate after undergoing rigorous testing on some of the most challenging terrains and boasting a payload of up to 1,140kg on the double cab option.

Craig Robson – Commercial Vehicle Sales Manager at TC Harrison Derby Transit Centre said “TC Harrison are incredibly proud to support and promote the team at Derby Mountain Rescue, with their valuable work of volunteers who work incredibly hard, not just in Derbyshire but in other areas where needed. The Ford Ranger is the ideal choice of vehicle to take on the challenges the mountain rescue team face. It’s a multi-award-winning vehicle and with features such as an 800mm wading depth, selectable low range gearbox with locking differential and a 3.5 tonne towing ability, it’s easy to see how this versatile vehicle works well for the team.”

In Ford’s third episode of the new doc-series ‘Lifesavers’, Ford follow Dr Natalya Kennedy and the Derby Mountain Rescue Team on a search and rescue mission for a man who took a fall from height in the Peak District. The full episode can be view below or on the TC Harrison Ford Facebook page.
