Evo Review the Fiesta ST

When Evo tried out the Fiesta ST, it’s safe to say they were pretty impressed. They gave it 4.5 stars and said ‘the fun and fast Fiesta is still our favourite hot supermini’. They explored the Fiesta ST in detail from the engine changes to the performance and handling.

Driving Experience

“On smooth roads the Fiesta corners fast and flat, flowing down twisting Tarmac with incredible poise and pace.” Evo’s driving review says, before going on to praise the well-weighted steering that gives the ST smooth and fast cornering.

They love that the Fiesta ‘responds eagerly’ to faster paces, with integrated torque vectoring that gives you more confidence to push forwards and lean hard on the front tyres. They also praised the natural balance, which allows you to subtly alter your driving line with just a small lift of the throttle or a dab of the brakes.

Technicalities

Of course, being an Evo review, much detail goes into the technical details and changes from the previous ST models. The electrically assisted steering has a 12:1 ratio, making it the quickest rack on any Ford Performance model. The force vectoring springs have been designed and patented by Ford with non-uniform, non-interchangeable directionally wound springs to absorb both vertical and cornering forces.

Another of the biggest changes from the previous models is the driving modes – Normal, Sport, and Track, which affect the throttle response, steering weight, and stability control intervention.

Performance

Under the bonnet, there are big changes from the previous Fiesta ST, including turbocharging and variable valve timing, as well as port and direct injection systems which work with cylinder deactivation to boost both efficiency and performance.

The new Fiesta ST also has a sports exhaust with active valving, which creates an incredible sound that petrol heads will love.

On the go, the Fiesta ST shoots from 0-62 mph in 6.5 seconds with a top speed of 144mph, giving it the wonderful delivery of a light car powered by a muscular engine. The generous low and mid-range torque mean that the Fiesta can speed off without any lagging.

Overall, Evo believe that “the Fiesta represents staggering value for money, delivering a performance per pound ratio that rivals can’t match.”
