The Oscars may be highly anticipated year-in and year-out, the Emmy’s may take the media by storm and the AutoTrader awards quite possibly cause more than a stir in the automotive network. However, nothing quite compares our very own TC Harrison Ford Alternative AutoTrader Awards. We’ve ripped up the script and we’re going rogue, so without further adieu. Here are the results, as nominated by us.

Best Car for New Drivers

AutoTrader award: Mercedes-Benz A-Class
TCH award: Ford Fiesta

The Mercedes-Benz A-Class is most definitely a dependable car. However, unlike the Ford Fiesta, we can’t guarantee that you already know someone driving one. There’s a reason so many people own a Fiesta. Sophisticated and secure driving paves way for a Ford Fiesta model that is every bit as iconic as the previous generation. The reliability and functionality of the Fiesta makes it one of the best-selling cars in the UK and by delivering long-lasting satisfaction, it comes as no surprise to see it take the award for Best Car for New Drivers.

Best 7 Seat Car

AutoTrader award: Volvo XC90
TCH award: Ford Galaxy

Okay, this is an important category. So much so, we decided to piece together a complete guide to Ford 7 seaters. Now, the Volvo XC90 undoubtedly looks and performs the part but when it comes down to overall value for money, the Ford Galaxy steals the show. Boasting 7 full-size seats, active park assist and intelligent all-wheel drive, it’s not hard to see why the Galaxy became a clear favourite.

Most Fun-to-Drive Car

AutoTrader award: Mazda MX-5
TCH award: Ford Mustang

We’re not disputing the fact that the Mazda MX-5 is a dreamy, open-top roadster. We just know that the Ford Mustang has much more pizzazz when it comes to pure-driving joy. We’re talking bold, ultra-modern styling with distinctive aerodynamics and a cockpit interior that wouldn’t be out of place in a 007 film. Complete with the iconic Ford Mustang logo embossed on the grill.

Best Car for Dog Owners

AutoTrader award: Skoda Karoq
TCH award: What dog?

Let’s just take a moment here. We’re not sure it’s quite all that fair to judge an award with so many variables. We’d need to know what breed of dog, what size dog, how you’re travelling with the dog, how far you’re going and whether you have just the one or more? If you’re talking just the one, middle sized dog we’d say Ford Focus; but then again if you’re a family of 4 plus your furry member you may want to upgrade to a something bigger like the Puma.

Best Utility Vehicle

AutoTrader award: Volkswagen Amarok
TCH award: Ford Ranger

When it comes to a utility vehicle, you start by looking for something reliable, rugged and refined. And that is precisely what the Volkswagen Amarok is. However, as we all begin to demand more from our vehicle, you recognise that this is when you need that next level of design and features. Whether it’s extra torque, advanced technology, trailer sway control or a drive mode capable of tackling the Baja Desert Rally. The Ford Ranger, or in the case of the latter, the Ford Ranger Raptor, offers all of this.

Best Hybrid Vehicle

AutoTrader award: Lexus NX300H
TCH award: Ford Puma

Electric Vehicles are very much becoming mainstream in the automotive industry and it’s not hard to see why. Hybrids, whether mild, plug-in or full are an ideal stepping stone from the stand-alone ICE vehicles we are all accustomed to. Most manufacturers are now adding EVs to their range and Lexus did brilliantly to take the crown. However, for the TCH alternative award, our attentions turn to the Ford Puma. With EcoBoost Mild-Hybrid efficiency and SUV inspired compact crossover design, the Puma provides the perfect balance of a sporty appearance and convenience of space. An added bonus is the ready-made megabox in the boot complete with a stop tap; perfect for washing travel pots, muddy boots, and the dog.
