You could qualify for the Motability Scheme if you receive any of the following benefits:
• Higher Rate Mobility Component of Disability Living Allowance (HMRC DLA)
• Enhanced Rate for Mobility on the Personal Independence Payment (PIP)
• War Pensioners Mobility Supplement (WPMS)
• Armed Forces Independence Payment (AFIP)
There's no upper age limit for the scheme, providing you receive one of the allowances listed above, but it is important to note that at the time you apply, you must have at least 12 months of benefits remaining. The Attendance Allowance is not a qualifying benefit. The Government has begun replacing Disability Living Allowance (DLA) with Personal Independence Payment (PIP) for all disabled people aged between 16 and 64.
If you are awarded the Enhanced Rate of the Mobility Component of PIP, you will continue to be able to lease a car through the Motability Scheme, as you did previously.
But don't worry if you have at least 12 months of your current allowance remaining, then you still be able to choose your new vehicle during the PIP rollout.
If you have any concerns about the PIP rollout please do not hesitate to contact one of our Motability Advisors, who will happily talk you through the ordering process.
