Motorway driving can often feel long, tedious, and tiring. However, Ford is changing that experience with its groundbreaking Ford BlueCruise self-drive technology, now set to roll out across even more vehicles in the UK.
Already a game-changer on the Mustang Mach-E, Ford BlueCruise is the first hands-free driving system to receive regulatory approval in Europe. UK drivers were the first to experience this innovation back in 2023, and since then, the technology has been approved in 16 European markets, with owners collectively covering over 552 million miles using the system.
Ford BlueCruise is an advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) that takes cruise control to the next level. Building on Ford’s Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control (IACC), it manages steering, acceleration, braking, lane positioning, and safe following distances. Using a combination of radars and cameras, it monitors road markings, speed signs, and traffic conditions, from high-speed cruising to stop-and-go traffic.
When driving on designated ‘Blue Zones’ (2,300 miles of pre-mapped motorways across England, Scotland, and Wales), drivers can take their hands off the wheel while the system handles the driving. However, drivers must remain attentive, as an infrared camera continuously monitors eye gaze and head position, even through sunglasses.
From spring 2026, Ford BlueCruise will be available on:
These models will feature the technology when equipped with the Driver Assistance Pack, with subscription options and pricing announced closer to launch.

Ford BlueCruise is classified as a Level 2 autonomous system, meaning it assists but does not replace the driver. Before activating hands-free mode, the system ensures lane markings are visible, conditions are safe, and the driver is paying attention. This commitment to safety is why Ford BlueCruise remains one of the most trusted self-drive technologies on the market.
Ford’s expansion of BlueCruise reflects a broader mission: making hands-free highway driving accessible to more customers. With five vehicle lines now offering this feature in Europe, Ford is leading the way in regulated self-drive technology.
Keep your eyes peeled for more information about this exciting launch on new vehicles! BlueCruise will have the ability to make even the longest journeys feel a breeze.
