Act Before You REact This Tyre Safety Month

13/10/2026

This October, Tyre Safety Month is highlighting the importance of being prepared for the unexpected with its 2026 theme: “Act Before You REact.”

New TyreSafe research has revealed a worrying gap between driver confidence and real-world vehicle readiness. While 83% of drivers believe they are in full control of their stopping distance, only 6% correctly identify the stopping distance required in wet conditions at motorway speeds, with 94% underestimating the risk.

The research also found that 38% of drivers experienced a near-miss in the last 12 months, yet only 11% checked their tyres afterwards and 22% took no action at all.

Tyre Safety Month

Remember to ACT

TyreSafe is encouraging drivers to make three simple checks every month and before long journeys:

  • A – Air Pressure: Check your tyres are inflated to the manufacturer’s recommended pressure.

  • C – Condition: Look for cuts, cracks, bulges and other signs of damage.

  • T – Tread: Make sure there is sufficient tread to maintain grip, particularly in wet conditions.

Taking a few minutes to check your tyres could help make sure your vehicle is ready when you need to react.
