We sent our Digital Marketing Assistant Liam to the Excel Arena in London last week to take part in the Ford Driving Skills for Life training.
The event provided by Ford who teamed up with the AA and 'Brake' to bring this free hands-on driver training to young drivers aged 18-24. The new Focus RS made and appearance and activities on the agenda included; oversteer, hazard and speed, distraction and technical. Not only has the programme won awards for its innovation, it’s received lots of positive feedback from participants too.
We caught up with Liam when he got back in the office to see what he had to say about the event.
"It was a great opportunity to be asked to attend this event in London. Especially for someone like me who has only been driving for a couple of years who may not be aware of the potential risks that I could face when out on the roads. I was really impressed with the innovative technology on show during the event to help prevent these.
My favourite activity of the day had to be the oversteer exercise, we were paired up and put into cars which were fitted with rear tyres that did not hold to the surface we were driving on. The main aim of the exercise was to make the car over steer when turning so that Ford's ESP System could kick in and help correct it.
Other activities also gave me the chance to try out Ford Active City Stop and the anti lock break system (ABS) fitted into all new Ford cars. Not only did I get the chance to try out this latest technology I also got to test drive the Ford Fiesta, Ford B-Max and new Ford Focus, which were all really great cars to drive! I was also very impressed with how well the event was run, everyone was really friendly and the instructors were very helpful!
I had such a good time at this event especially when trying to set a new record on the Ford reaction test and whilst trying to complete one of the circuits whilst wearing the Ford Drink driving suit. I really would recommend this event to any young driver as its not just filled with fun but also very hands on so you get to have a go at everything! But also the best bit, the event is FREE! So thanks for the opportunity and thanks to Ford for putting on the event and making it a very memorable day!"
Sounds like our Digital Marketing Assistant had a great time. If you fancy the chance to have a go at the Ford DSFL programme, keep your eyes peeled as this is an event that runs around the UK. Why not register, because as Liam said it's totally FREE!
