Ford Set to Launch a New Ka+

Way back in 2013, Ford unveiled a new Ka concept in Brazil, with 5 doors and a new design that was almost unrecognisable from its predecessors. Now dubbed the Ford Ka+, this all new 5-door, 5-seat car will go on sale in the second half of 2016 but it's important to understand that the new Ford Ka+ is not a direct replacement for the outgoing Ka.

The new Ka+ is Ford’s response to the growing demand for a true B-Car in the “low end” segment. The dramatic makeover shows the Ka+ looking more mature than the current Ka, with the new 'one Ford philosophy' design and striking front grille similar to that used on the new Focus and Mondeo.

As you would expect, the supermini has been designed with urban driving in mind. There is an emphasis placed on the new Ka+'s fuel economy and its best-in-class interior. The new five-door only model will sit on the current Ford Fiesta platform with a similar wheelbase and being 4,000mm in length. Inside, boasting a generous cabin, the Ka+ can seat five in comfort. Headroom is excellent and legroom in the rear can easily accommodate taller passengers. There will be luxury features as standard like a 4.2-inch infotainment screen in the centre of the car and a 2.3-inch TFT display between the main instruments. From 15" alloy wheels for that extra touch of style to air conditioning for the comfort of a relaxing drive in all seasons, the Ka+ Zetec has it all.

Jim Farley, Executive Vice President, Europe at Ford Motor Company, recently told Auto Express: “The B-car value segment is exploding. Sales have doubled in the past few years so we’re introducing the Ka+ to compete in that segment. It’s very roomy, will have very low cost of ownership and it’ll have the driving dynamics of a Fiesta. We want to give the mainstream customer the feeling of a specialty car, like the Ford Mustang or Focus RS, because it will have a strong personality.”
