Ford Fiesta vs Ford Kuga: How do they compare?

The Ford Fiesta was developed in 1976 and is currently in its 7th generation. One of the most popular cars in the UK, it became the best-selling car of all time in 2014. The newest Fiestas come with an Ecoboost engine and can be either a petrol or a diesel engine.

The Ford Kuga, meanwhile, was developed in 2008 and is currently in its 3rd generation. The Kuga is also known as the Escape and can come as a petrol, diesel, or hybrid car. The Kuga is slightly faster than the Fiesta, with a top speed of 129mph and has a faster acceleration.

The main differences between the Ford Kuga and Fiesta lie in the technical capabilities of the two, so keep reading to see how they compare with one another:

Engine sizes

The engine sizes of the newest Ford Fiesta models can range from a 1L Ecoboost to a 1.5L diesel or petrol Ecoboost engine.

By comparison, the Ford Kuga has a much larger engine, with the smallest being a 1.5 L Ecoboost petrol engine and the largest being a huge 2L diesel engine.

Hybrid vehicles are incredibly popular as the world moves towards clean energy and both the Ford Kuga and Ford Fiesta have hybrid models to choose from. Undoubtedly, the Kuga is the more powerful car from this Ford range, although the Fiesta is much more eco-friendly.

Interior features

Both the Fiesta and the Kuga have sleek interiors, but there are some key differences. The Ford Fiesta can carry a maximum of 1093L in its trunk space, whereas the Ford Kuga is much larger, with a maximum boot capacity of 1534L.

Infotainment systems are vitally important in new cars and the Fiesta now comes with an 8-inch touchscreen on top of the dashboard and comes with Bluetooth, air-conditioning, and a DAB radio sound system to improve your driving experience.

Meanwhile, the Kuga has a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, and many of their models come with a powerful B&O sound system. In some models, according to the Ford website, there's even the opportunity to add a heated steering wheel!

Styling

The Fiesta comes with a heated windscreen for quick clearing, a mesh front grille, and 16-inch, 8-spoke alloys with a buffed metallic finish, and can be finished in a range of stylish colours, including black, dark or light blue, white, silver and red. Coming with LED projector headlamps and LED daytime lights, there is even the option to include a spoiler with your Fiesta, if you choose the ST-Line or ST-Line X models.

The Ford Kuga comes with 5 seats and 17-inch silver alloy wheels, with halogen projector headlamps and daytime running lamps for extra safety. With front and rear parking sensors as well as autonomous emergency braking, you can choose your Kuga in deep blue, white, black, silver, red, or deep grey.

In terms of size, the Ford Kuga is much larger, as it is classed as a large SUV. The new Fiesta models are larger than previous ones, but it is still much smaller than the Kuga and is classed as a ‘supermini’. A standard Ford Fiesta will be around 4.04m long, and 1.74m wide, whereas a Kuga is around 4.61m long and 1.88m wide.

Costs

If you’re buying a brand-new Ford Fiesta, you can expect to be paying around £16,385, but up to £28,475. The Ford Kuga is a much more expensive car, starting at around £26,445 and ranging up to £39,305 when you’re buying a brand-new car.

However, there is a difference in the car that you are buying. A new Kuga might set you back more, but you'll be getting a bigger, more powerful car with a whole host of extra features. However, a Ford Fiesta remains an economical, sleek car that can do just about anything you need it to.
