Ok, so we may be getting a little ahead of ourselves and know that a new ST hasn’t been announced but following the launch of the new Ford Focus, there have been a few sneaky little sightings of a potential new Focus ST to go along with the new range.
Last week, we told you that we thought there was a new ST on the horizon and this week we have some new rumours and expectations of the new model for you. Although the new Ford Focus was launched in April and will be released later on in 2018, we will likely be waiting a little longer for the new Focus ST as it is expected to debut at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show, just like the new Mustang Bullitt was announced at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show.
Initially, it was rumoured that the brand new ST would get a downgraded engine from the current 2.0-litre petrol engine to a 1.5-litre EcoBoost petrol engine. However, it is now thought that it will be getting a 2.3-litre EcoBoost petrol engine. Not only this, it is expected to be up to 88kg (or 194 pounds) lighter than the current model, giving it a little extra boost. The 2.3-litre EcoBoost is the same as the Focus RS engine, but will have 250bhp instead of the 345bhp of the RS.
It is also expected that the new Ford Focus ST will be available exclusively with a six-speed manual gearbox, without the Powershift automatic option of the current model, which will be a big thrill for driving enthusiasts who want a fun and playful ST.
It will be the fastest and most powerful model of the new Ford Focus, until the new Focus RS, which is expected to be released in 2020. It is also believed that the 2020 Focus RS will be a hybrid, meaning that the latest ST may be the last in Ford’s line-up of petrol hot hatches.
